University of Oregon Men’s Club Basketball
2017-18 Roster
In 2015, a group of students came together with one common passion, we all missed playing competitive basketball after high school.
University of Oregon Men’s Club Basketball provides students the opportunity to play competitive basketball while attending the university. Club Sports serve as a medium between intramural sports and the NCAA Division 1 program. I was a founding member in 2015, and would serve as president from 2016 to 2018. In my two years as president, we raised close to $40,000 and developed into a top-25 club team nationally.
Scheduling
Our team plays a national schedule. We take pride in representing the university across the country. Travel included:
Los Angeles, CA - UCLA
Sacramento, CA - CSU Sacramento
Columbus, OH - Ohio State University
College Station, TX - Texas A&M University
Spokane, WA - Gonzaga University
Our season consisted of 25 games annually with opponents that included: NCAA Division III teams, junior college teams, and club teams of other large universities. Travel arrangements and scheduling are managed before the start of each season. Each game is scheduled to create lasting memories for members and support the future growth of the program.
Public Relations
Standing room only crowd at home game vs Gonzaga
Community engagement and public relations were especially important as we were launching the club. The community and student body would support us if we presented ourselves as a competitive program accessible to the general public. Public relations strategy and tactics included:
Pitch potential stories to on-campus news publications.
Create a strong social media presence: Game recaps, player biographies, and team-related news.
Coordinate scrimmage games with other organizations on campus to develop positive relationships with other clubs
Day to day operations
Additional responsibilities included:
Budget Management
Manage equipment inventory
Team fundraising initiatives
Team building activities
